Field guide · Nursery
A nursery is judged in the dark, one-handed, at 3 a.m. These are the standard piece sizes, the clearances between them, and the placement rules that aren't negotiable. Inches throughout.
| Piece | W × D | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard crib | 30 × 55 | the regulated size — mattresses are universal |
| Mini crib | 24 × 38 | small rooms; shorter service life |
| Bassinet | 20 × 33 | the first months, usually bedside |
| Changing table | 36 × 19 | +30″ standing room — a dresser-top pad does the same job |
| Glider + ottoman | 30 × 34 | +16″ front for legs and the rocking arc |
| Toddler bed | 30 × 54 | same footprint as the crib — the layout survives the upgrade |
| Playard | 28 × 40 | travels; plan a parking spot |
Comfortably. Crib (30 × 55) on the windowless wall, glider and ottoman (30 × 34 + rocking room) in the corner, dresser-with-pad (48 × 18) on a third wall — with 24″ approaches held, a 10 × 10 takes all three with floor to spare for the playard. The squeeze comes from the closet and door swings, which is exactly what the plan shows and the furniture list doesn't.
Drop the crib, glider, and changing table on your actual plan — the clearance halos show the path before the furniture ships.
